I build IoT Power Socket to remotely switch the power on and off from Gaggia Classic espresso machine. In addition to powering the machine, the mobile app also displays the boiler temperature. The power socket has it's own Twitter account to let everyone else know when the machine is warming up.
Mechatronic devices combine mechanical and electrical engineering. Basically, almost every device or product we use is mechatronic.
My son had a Duplo train and he also played the Duplo Trains game on a tablet computer. In the game, the player can adjust the train's speed and do some other tasks. I decided to build a real-life version of the speed controller. I used an Arduino microcontroller with an nRF24L01 module and linear potentiometer to control the speed wirelessly. I also added train station detection, it uses a magnet and a hall effect sensor. It even has working traffic lights, just like in the game!
